About this Recipe
By: Michelle Sparkles
I had been very intrigued by Jimmy Dean’s protein packs every time I walked past in the grocery store. They sounded awesome, but I didn’t want to spend $3/box. After trying one I was hooked- so I went into DIY mode to recreate the originals and 3 versions of my own. The recipes for the other 3 are at the bottom of the page. Enjoy!
- 15 peices turkey pepperoni
- 1 mozzerella string cheese stick
- 1 hard-boiled egg
- *Optional: 1/2 Apple or 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
- reusable bento style containers (available in stores and on Amazon)
These copycat snack packs are extremely easy to assemble and I have my kiddos involved in this (they end up eating these after practice, school, during park dates). The best part is they are portable, easy to replicate, nourishing and oh so satisfying. You can save time by buying pre-cooked eggs at the store, or I use my InstantPot to have perfect hard-boiled eggs in less than 10 minutes! You can’t mess these up!
Tip: Hard boil the day before and let cool overnight for easy peeling.
*These values are approximate and may vary based on brand and individual differences. Values do not include optional apple/tomatoes.

Step by Step Instructions
Hard boil eggs the night before giving enough time to cool. Take out the rest of the ingredients and your method of storage.
Cut string cheese into 6 bites.
If using block cheese, cut an 8 oz block of cheese in 1 oz chunks, then cube cheese into 6 pieces.
Step 3- prepare protein
Remove shells from eggs if desired, rinse and pat dry. I will typically wait to peel my eggs or wrap the peeled eggs in a ziplock to keep the rest of the pack from tasting like eggs.
Step 4- Assemble Ingredients
Place 1 egg, 15 turkey pepperoni and string cheese in the box. If you do not have separated compartments you will need to place the hard boiled egg in a bag to prevent the egg smell/taste from getting into the other foods.
*Others have also left the string cheese in the wrapping and egg in the shell until consuming. Do what works best for you!
Step 5- Consume or Store
Chow down or store protein snack packs in fridge for up to 1 week. Enjoy!
